Some of you have probably read some of the Blog messages and thought, "Hmmm... what's the big deal here?"
Well the truth is, there is no big deal, just a place to add "YOUR" comments about any Lion activity. Such as, Is your club having an upcoming event? Did someone in your club get an award? Why not tell the rest of us about it. (Inquiring minds want to know) ;>)
Blogs are like newsletters only better sometimes cause they don't create a lot of email traffic. (Not that we have that problem with the District newsletter).
I got a call today from Lion Sal Al Ashkar, who wanted to know if he could use the District Listserve to send some info regarding a Diabetes seminar he was scheduling in Albany. I was only sorry that he had to ask, that's what the newsletter and this website is for. The tools are here for you to use Lions so PLEASE use them. Is there some that keeps you from trying this let me know, I'll try to walk you thru it.
People today are using the internet to bank and pay their bills. This site is simple compared to some of those.
So let's hear from you, or better yet read what you have to say.

You will notice that we have a new District calendar that is being kept fairly current with events as and if we receive notice of them.
Please send your event information to the District Secretary Lion Scott. scott@abcon.com
We will also post your events to the District listserve. In order for the listserve to be effective we must have the email address of your club members, otherwise they will not be notified of your or other club events. In order for other Lions in the District to be informed of your event you need to reciprocate by sending us your current club email list.
Remember the List is only used to inform your members of Lion events and other vital information.

ps: email me at chuck@abcon.com if you have any questions

The Officers Training at Waunakee went very well on Monday Nite. Thanks to all the presentors for keeping the program to an hour. Our new Lions from the UW felt it was very worthwhile and thanks to all you veteran Lions that gave this new group of officers some ideas! Lion Rick Daluge

When I added this blog to the District page I just sort of thru it out thinking... well we'll see if anyone latches on to this, not really expecting that anyone would... and as expected nobody did.
But that's ok, I know just getting on the web can be a challenge for many Lions and trying to figure out what Login and Password means just about does some in. Throw in a few software bugs and snags and only the few with the strongest will to figure this stuff out seem to succeed.
Well hang in there, it will get better.. slowly.
Some have tried using the calendar feature and even though they loaded in their info correctly, their event didn't appear on the calendar. Sorry, my fault. It takes the webmaster (me) to approve the event before it appears and since nobody was using the calendar, I never checked it and missed a few last month. For now I have taken the approval process off so that events will be automatically added, but you still need to be registered and logged in to use this feature.
I also have a poll feature which hasn't been updated in a long while. Again, there just to much going on, but if you have a question that you think would make a good poll for the site, send it to me and I be glad to put it out there.
What else, oh yes.. I had over the past two years tried, with out much success to set up a holiday cruise for Lions that would have been a good opportunity to mix and have some fun and get to know each other in a relaxed fun setting and it would have raised some money for the District. There were a few that expressed some interest but not enough to warrant the effort so I dropped the idea. However I didn't drop the cruise idea entirely and at the end of the month Holly and I will be going on that cruise with a weeks trip around Cuba visiting GeorgeTown, Grand Caymans and Ocho Rio, Jamaica. We'll also do a little hurricane spotting while we're in Carribean (not). I'll let you know how it worked out when I get back.
I also want to mention that I attended another excellant Lion Leadershio Workshop last Saturday in McFarland. It was put on by VDG Rob Sherman, Lion Jodi Burmester, Lion Dan Teetzen and Lion Val Roberts. There were about 20 in attendance, the presentations were superb and I can help but feel what a shame that more Lions didn't attend. They just don't know what they are missing out on. The information presented at these sessions goes way beyond how to be an effective Lion and can really be applied to ones job or how one conducts their life. Such a lost opportunity for many..
Ok, so this is a blog.. you get to say what you want. If you have comments, feel free to post them. If you think it's a bunch of BS, tell me where I missed the boat. That's what this little feature is all about.

Every so often, because we Lions have this web presence, I get a request like the following:

Hello,
My name is Tracy. I am writing to you. Because I would like your help with finding some sponsors.
I am trying to get sponsors, so that I can get a hearing dog that I really need.
I am going through Dogs For Indepence,Inc. Located in Shorewood,WI. They say that I need to find a sponsor or do fundraising. I really don't know how to find a sponsor, So I am asking you for help.
The stuff for the hearing dog costs up to $5,000.00. And the classes for training with the dog is $500.00 each class. I can't afford that. So I am hoping that you can help me find a sponsor.
I would really appreciate it. Here's the webpage fo Dogs For Independence,Inc. : www.dfiinc.org
Thank you so much for your time. I hope that you can help me find a sponsor so that I can get my hearing dog.
Thanks again and God Bless You
Sincerely,
Tracy Van Kleef

I will put this out for anyone that cares to respond. How should request like these be handled. Or better yet who should be the person to handle emails like these. Should someone at the district level field these or do we toss it up for grabs by a local club. Do we need an official email handler at the cabinet level?

Well at least this BLOG module.
It seems that anyone can read a BLOG, but to post one or add a comment to one, you need to be a registered users of the website.
The BLOG is basically an open diary and is recorded by date and time. You can say what you want at any time and others can read and reply if they care.
As I said earlier this seems to be a very popular form of communicating now amongst the more SAVY web users perhaps. It has been very effective in spreading both FACTS, INUENDOS and RUMORS during this political campaign season.
Needless to say, D1 District is not responsible for the content. That we leave solely up to the author.

Shall we dare try a Lions web BLOG?
Many companies today are letting their employees setup and use BLOGs to communicate with clients and prospects. Microsoft now has over 800 employees with BLOGs.
While perhaps risky (you never know what may be said) they are finding that it starts the creative juices flowing and many times leads to break throughs in new ways to get things done. Kinda like the over used term (Thinking OUT of the BOX) whatever that is.
So feel free if you dare to setup your own BLOG, any topic you choose, or add on to this one. Get wild, get down, get crazy, get going! Let's see if we can come up with some new ideas to attract some new blood to our clubs.
OK, your turn...
